A 74-Year-Old Woman Gave Birth To Twins And Becomes Oldest Woman Ever To Give Birth

A 74-year-old woman who gave birth to twin girls is believed to be the ‘world’s oldest new mother.’

Mangayamma Yaramati, 74, and her husband, Sitarama Rajarao, 82, opted for in vitro fertilization after years of being unable to conceive, reported the Times of India.

Mangayamma gave birth via cesarean section, and is currently in intensive care “to come out of the stress” of giving birth, doctors said.

The couple from a small Indian village in the Eastern Godavari district welcomed two baby girls after undergoing one round of IVF in January, her doctor claims.

The couple said they had tried for years to get pregnant but couldn’t, the BBC reported. Their twin girls have now ended their 60-year wait to be parents.

“We are the happiest couple on Earth today,” said her husband, Sitarama Rajarao, to the Times of India. “We have our own children.”

“I am very happy. God has answered our prayers,” Mrs Mangayamma said, as per the Telegraph.

Doctors are reporting no complications after the daughters were born via C-section.

“It was smooth, as there were no health complications,” Dr. Uma sankar, of the Ahalya Hospital, told SWNS. “Each baby is weighing approximately 2 kgs (4.4 pounds) and both babies are healthy.”

The doctor who delivered the babies, Dr. Uma Sankar, told the Washington Post that Mangayamma is 74, according to a provided birth certificate.

Mangayamma’s feat surpasses that of a 72-year-old woman, Daljinder Kaur, also from India, who previously held the record for oldest recorded age at birth.

We wish the happy parents and their newborn babies all the best.
